How to use the word counter
Paste a draft, product description or presentation text into the field. Results update with every change, so you can shorten a sentence and immediately see how many words or characters you removed. “Copy text” copies your edited version; “Clear” empties the field. Your text stays in your browser and is not sent anywhere to calculate the results.
What counts as a word, character or paragraph?
The character total includes spaces and line breaks. “Without spaces” excludes them. Words and sentences are identified using your browser’s language rules, so abbreviations, numbers or compound words may be handled differently by another application. Characters are counted as Unicode code points: a combined emoji may contain several even though it appears as one symbol on screen. Leave a blank line between paragraphs: a single line break does not create a new paragraph in this counter.
What does reading time tell you?
It is a guide for planning an article or a spoken presentation. The estimate uses 200 words per minute for reading and 130 for speaking. It is not a stopwatch: pauses, difficult words and your pace all affect the actual duration. For a speech or video, read the text aloud with your usual pauses to check.
